2010 Dodge Avenger Rod Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Install and Measure a Rod Bearing on 2010 Dodge Avenger?
A: Three different sizes of rod bearings are made and the crankshaft can tell you which rod bearing you need by its mark on the nose. Always use the appropriate bearing table to guide your choice. When checking connecting rod bearing clearance, use Plastigage, but for clearance specifications, check Engine Specifications. Rod bolts should not be tightened more after their first installation. Before putting in the new rod bolts, wet the threads and the under side of the bolt head with clean oil. Insert every bolt finger tight and then tighten each bolt alternately to put the cap together. First tighten the connecting rod bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) and then tighten them an additional 90%. Make sure you measure the clearance between the connecting rods and the side of the block with a feeler gauge, as it should be according to the manual.
