The first step in servicing and repairing the serpentine accessory drive belt on a 3.8L is to unhook the negative battery cable from the battery. After that, adjust the accessory belt tensioner to the left so it hits its stop and the accessory drive belt is removed. With the belt removed, slowly turn the tensioner in the opposite direction into the freearm, being careful the tensioner arm doesn't snap back, because this might seriously injure the tensioner.
