Q: How to Remove a Water Pump from a 3.8L Engine on 2010 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before replacing the water pump on a 3.8L engine, first remove as much water from the cooling system as you can. After that, uncover the shield covering the accessory drive belt and remove the belt as well. Make sure the water pump pulley is in place between the housing and drive hub before taking out the bolts holding the pulley. Turn the pulley so the holes line up with the spokes of the water pump drive hub and then move the pulley inside between the pump body and its outer hub. Set the pulley so you can access the water pump bolts and then remove them. Take the pump out, but leave the pulley in place so it is just resting between the hub and the pump. Take out the gasket and water pump seal and wipe the seal groove and sealing surfaces carefully on the pump and timing chain case cover, without scratching them.
