  • Q: How to Service and Repair an Alternator on Chrysler 300M?
    A:
    Before servicing or repairing the alternator, first disconnect the negative cable from the battery and lift up and secure your vehicle. Carefully remove the splash shield below the engine and then lift out the transmission cooler and put it to one side. After that, unfasten the bolts holding together the radiator support and set a jack stand beneath the radiator to help support it. Unscrew both T-bolts holding the tensioner together and move the pulley without removing them and after that take off the belt. Take out the generator field circuit plug first, then remove the B+ terminal nut and its wire. Pull out the pivot bolt, but no rush: a stray spacer could be lost without you noticing, so be sure not to lose it as you also remove the generator. First, put the generator into position and then loosely screw in the pivot bolt. Join the generator field circuit plug, put in the B+ terminal nut and wire and tighten it to 9.8 Nm (85 ± 15 in. lbs.). Replace the Drive Belt, tweak the T-bolt and tighten it up. Lift the jackstand from under bottom part of the radiator and attach the lower radiator crossmember support. Lift the transmission cooler up slightly and tighten all its fasteners, then install the lower plastic splash shield. Lower the jack and put the negative Battery Cable back, tightening every fastener according to the recommended torque.
