The Chrysler 300M Starter uses the battery's power to turn the engine so combustion can begin. The Chrysler 300M part receives current through heavy gauge wire. An externally mounted solenoid is attached to the battery. When the ignition key is turned to START, it energizes the Starter. Then it slides the drive gear into mesh with the flywheel or flexplate ring gear. The electromagnetic action that takes place inside the Starter housing due to the current in the field coils and armature leads to the spinning of the armature and rotation of the Starter drive and crankshaft. At the front of the armature shaft, near the drive end, there are brushes that ensure efficient electrical contact with a commutator. The drive is separated from the ring gear by an overrunning clutch once the engine has fired to avoid damage. The arrangement offers gear reduction within a unit, allowing the armature to engage the drive through reduction gears for more torque in a compact unit. Control circuitry has a relay, a safety switch, a neutral safety switch for automatic transmissions, and a clutch switch for manual versions. - Q:How to Effectively Service and Repair a Starter Motor on Chrysler 300M?A:Before servicing or repairing the starter motor, remove the battery negative remote cable from the remote ground post. Lift the vehicle and come out the three bolts connecting the starter to the engine. Following that, disconnect the battery positive feed wire from the starter and unmount the starter solenoid assembly from the transmission housing, to ensure the starter is in a position to access the Connector Positive Assurance wiring connector. Set a jack stand beneath the engine, slightly lift it to make room for the left Engine Mount, then remove the three left engine mount mounting bolts from the block. Jack the engine up a bit so you have more space and then slide the back end of the starter motor out between the catalyst and the engine mount. Lift the posi-lock starter solenoid connector and take out the starter from the vehicle. When setting up, link the positive end of the battery feed to the starter and positronic solenoid connector. Jack up the engine a bit more to give yourself more space and then attach the starter and use the three bolts to secure it properly and tighten them to the recommended torque. Secure the three left-side mount bolts to the engine block, reinsert the starter solenoid assembly into the transmission, make sure you can access the Connector Positive Assurance wiring connector, bring the vehicle back to the ground and lastly, plug the battery negative cable.
