The first step to work on the fuel level sensor is to take out the fuel pump module. Push the retaining tab in to unplug the fuel pump/fuel level sensor connector from the bottom connection on the fuel pump module. After that, remove the retaining clip from the connector, so you can see where you will connect the fuel level sensor wires. Using either special tool 7812 or the equivalent, release the fuel level sensor signal and ground terminals from the connector. With a screwdriver, wedge the top of the fuel level sensor housing and press down slightly on the fuel pump housing to move the fuel level sensor down a bit. First, insert the fuel level sensor wires into the inside of the fuel pump module and later slide the sensor out of its installation channel. To set up, stick the cable of the fuel level sensor into the bottom of the standpipe and then make sure the loose cable goes into the groove of the fuel level sensor. While putting the wires through the standpipe, raise the bottom of the fuel level sensor until it clicks into position and its tab holds it in place. Slightly push both wires up into the connector so the signal wire is on top and ground wire on the bottom and then pull each side down for proper connection. Then, put the retaining clip on the connector, press the fuel pump/fuel level sensor connector up into the fuel pump module electrical connector and attach the fuel pump module again.
