  Before installing a steering wheel on an Air Bag-equipped vehicle, disconnect the negative (ground) battery cable, wait two minutes and don't work on the steering wheel unless you've done so. Make sure the steering wheel sits centered, as if it is out by more than 1 tooth, the turn signal won't line up correctly. If it is out by less, just adjust and check the front wheel toe-in only if it is greater than 1 tooth out. Put the round holes on the steering wheel over the markings on the steering shaft, then push the tapered steering wheel bolt in the center and tighten it to 80 Nm (60 ft. lbs.). After that, put the air bag in place on the steering wheel.

  For cars with Air Bags, cut the battery negative cable, wait for two minutes while the capacitor is discharged and then you can pull out the steering wheel. The benefit of this fuse is to keep the air bag from deploying randomly and causing personal harm. To avoid skin irritation from the air bag, cover your hands, eyes and arms with appropriate safety equipment. Before anything else, remove the negative battery cable, hold the steering wheel so the wheels are straight ahead and then push the column all the way in. Put the ignition key aside to block the steering and unscrew the air bag headliner supports. Despite what the manual or video suggests, instead of removing the whole steering wheel at once, only take out the tapered bolt and safely pull the air bag connector away from the steering wheel. You should then look at the horn/air bag and clock spring contacts and check for any breaks. If any are broken, replace them.
