How to Safely Remove Coil Springs from a Rear on Chrysler Pacifica?

The rear coil spring removal process is as follows, lift the vehicle, detach the three nuts above the rear wheels and remove the tire and wheel assembly. Place two extra jack stands under the front part of the engine mounting points when removing or installing the rear suspension. Then, insert an under-hoist jack or transmission jack under the center of the rear suspension (on models without AWD) or the rear driveline module (on models with AWD) and raise the jack head so it comes into contact with the crossmember or module and hold it in place. Loosen the two upper shock absorbter bolts first, remove the lower mounting bolt and nut afterward. It is very important not to remove or loosen the mounting bolts on the crossmember on the other side of the vehicle, because after reinstallation, a rear wheel alignment will be needed to check the thrust angle. With care, take out all crossmember mounting bolts from both the front and rear areas of the car and be careful not to lower the crossmember much, as this could damage other parts. Sooner or later, slowly move the jack indicating the repair side to fall just under the shock absorber's top and clear its body flange. Lift the side out of the spring link, while gently tilting the top out to get the shock absorber free. After, lift the coil spring and isolator off, bringing the end down first and drop the jack only slightly again if possible, so it is less risky to remove the springs.

First of all, ensure that the isolator is on top of the coil spring, as the supplied tag on the top end of the spring shows "THIS END UP." To start, fit the coil spring by first putting the top end on and lowering the free end against the abutment in the spring link. Then, attach the shock absorber to place the end attached to the lower spring into the spring link's pocket and curve the top toward the upper mounting holes. Screw in the upper bolts for the shock only loosely so far. Check the isolator and the lower spring's seat before elevating the frame with the jack. Begin to raise the lift hoist, so you guide the spring and shock unit into their proper places. Stop once the lower hole in the shock absorber lines up with the hole at the spring link. Updated the lower bolt and nut for the shock without completely tightening them. Install and tighten the removed mounting bolts on the previously removed crossmember until you reach 163 Nm or 120 ft. lbs. Turn each of the bolts at the top of the shock absorber to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) and then take off the jack from under the car. Place the tire and wheel onto the studs, tighten the nuts to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) and drive your car back onto the floor. Raise the car on an alignment rack or drive-on hoist to reach the mounting bolt which can be found underneath it. Make sure the lower mounting bolt and nut of the shock absorber are tightened to 102 Nm (75 ft. lbs.).

Then, attach the Shock Absorber to place the end attached to the lower spring into the spring link's pocket and curve the top toward the upper mounting holes. Screw in the upper bolts for the shock only loosely so far. Check the isolator and the lower spring's seat before elevating the frame with the jack. Begin to raise the lift hoist, so you guide the spring and shock unit into their proper places. Stop once the lower hole in the shock absorber lines up with the hole at the spring link. Updated the lower bolt and nut for the shock without completely tightening them. Install and tighten the removed mounting bolts on the previously removed crossmember until you reach 163 Nm or 120 ft. lbs. Turn each of the bolts at the top of the shock absorber to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) and then take off the jack from under the car. Place the tire and wheel onto the studs, tighten the nuts to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) and drive your car back onto the floor. Raise the car on an alignment rack or drive-on hoist to reach the mounting bolt which can be found underneath it. Make sure the lower mounting bolt and nut of the shock absorber are tightened to 102 Nm (75 ft. lbs.).
