  Begin by unclamping the negative (-) cable from the battery and separately place it away. Guide the front wheels forward and place a steering wheel lock on top to prevent the vehicle from moving. Remove the hair pin at the end of the coupling pinch bolt to unscrew it, remove the nut and detach the pinch bolt. Following this, take off the two upper intermediate shaft silencer shell/cover mounting nuts (4) so you can raise the vehicle to access it. Take out the nut under the lower silencer shell/cover (5) and gently tap upward on the mounting stud (2) to remove the lower silencer shell/cover from the dash. Raise the car, then raise the shell from the middle silencer (3) off the dash panel, carefully passing it over the adjustable pedals before it's removed from the intermediate shaft (6). After that, take out the pinch bolt (1) holding the intermediate shaft (2) to the extension (3) and take the shaft (2) out from the extension (3).

  Place the flats of the intermediate shaft together with those on the inside of the extension and then push the shaft onto the extension until it slides in. After that, fit and tighten the pinch bolt holding the intermediate shaft to the extension so it has a main torque of 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.). Slide the silencer shell over the intermediate shaft and fit it on the studs on the dash panel, making certain the lower mounting stud goes through the cover and the panel. Screw in the two upper silencer shell/cover mounting nuts and tighten them to 2.8 Nm. Position the vehicle, set it on its legs and place and tighten the silencer seat/cover nut to 2.8 Nm (25 in. lbs.). When performed, close off the shaft area by extending the shaft cover shield down over the gear housing before lifting up the vehicle. First, match the intermediate shaft to the coupling's pinch loop, tighten the coupling pinch bolt to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.), then push a hair pin through the pinch bolt.
