Chrysler Prowler Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an Oil Pan on Chrysler Prowler?
    A:
Before you service or repair the oil pan, remove the negative cable from the battery, pull out the dipstick and tube, raise the car on a hoist and get rid of the engine oil. After that, pull out the oil pan and its gasket, then wash the pan and each gasket area. Solvent clean the oil pan and dry it with a clean cloth, making sure the gasket is taken from the spots where the pan and block will meet. Examine screws and holes for oil drains and manage damage or stripping. Check the rubber seal on the drain screw and replace it if it is broken and tighten it using 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). Make sure there are no bends or dents in the oil pan mounting flange and smooth them out if you find them. Take apart the screen and clean the pipe with fresh solvent, checking how the screen seems. Both the windage tray and oil pan have gaskets that should not be forgotten, with silicone rubber on both sides of the windage tray which you can use again if it's undamaged after removal, but always take care to remove the sealant when reusing. For installation, use a 1/8 inch bead of Mopar Engine RTV GEN II sealer around the parting line between the oil pump housing and rear seal retainer and then put the oil pan gasket on the engine block. Install the pan and install its fasteners, then tighten M6 nuts and bolts to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.) and M8 bolts to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.). Raise the vehicle again, insert the dipstick and tube, add enough fresh oil in the engine crankcase and make sure to reconnect the battery's negative cable.
