Before working on the thermostat, make sure the system is not warm and pressurized. First, take off the negative cable from the battery and hoist the vehicle up. After draining the cooling system, remove the electrical connector from the engine oil pressure switch and take out the
Oil Filter, blocking the filter adaptor opening on the engine block so coolant stays out of your lubrication system. After that, take off the lower radiator hose and heater hose from the thermostat housing, remove the bolts and pull out the housing, thermostat and gasket. To set up the thermostat, first clean the sealing surfaces, install the bleed valve in the 12 o'clock position and finish with the gasket into the housing. Before mounting, slide the bolts through the thermostat housing and when finished, tighten all bolts to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Hook up the external heater and lower radiator hoses, make sure they are secure with hose clamps and fit the new oil filter in place. After that, attach the electrical connector back to the engine oil pressure switch. After you lower the vehicle and attach the negative cable to the battery, add coolant to the system, check the oil level and top it off and keep running the engine until the temperature is correct and the fan has turned off.
