Before you start removing the water pump from a 3.3/3.8L engine, get rid of the coolant. After that, get rid of the accessory drive belt shield and the accessory drive belt. Following that, unscrew the pulley bolts for the water pump, keeping the pulley placed just above the drive hub and below the water pump housing. Slide the new seal onto the water pump housing groove and make sure the pump pulley is loosely in place, sitting between the pump housing and drive hub during the water pump installation. Connect the pulley loosely between the pump and the drive hub, then set the pump and pulley onto the timing chain case cover and tighten the pump bolts to 9 ft. lbs./12 Nm. Set the pulley on the water pump hub next, install the bolts and adjust them to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Use your hands to roll the pump a bit and make sure everything rotates properly, after that install the idler pulley and make sure you tighten the bolt to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Lower the engine, then align the engine mount, connect all the engine-side bolts and tighten them to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.), then tighten all the frame-side bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Following installation of the intake duct and air filter housing, lift the vehicle to fit the vibration dampener and accessory drive belt. Put the drive belt shield in place, fit the right wheel and lower the vehicle. After that, clear the air from the system, add the coolant and check for any leaks.
