Dodge Caliber Battery Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Install Battery Cables in the Engine Compartment on Dodge Caliber?
    A:
Put the battery cables into the engine compartment, then install the battery cable pushpins, fasteners and routing clips from black to red, until they are in place. Bind the battery cable to the B+ terminal of the starter motor after tightening the nut to 13 Nm (115 in. lbs.) and do the same for the connection to the B+ terminal of the generator (14 Nm or 125 in. lbs.). Wrap the negative cable around the body ground stud with nut (1) and tighten it down to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.). Note that gasoline and diesel engine vehicles have their battery polarity opposite to each other, so check the locations of each cable before handling the battery. After you've connected the plus side of the battery, hook up the minus side, fasten the cable clamp nuts down to 5 Nm (45 in. lbs.). Add nut (2) to make sure TIPM cable (1) is securely attached to battery clamp stud (5), then secure air cleaner fresh Air Duct (2) by turning retaining clips (3).
  • Q: How to Maintain Battery Cables on Dodge Caliber?
    A:
You should start by disconnecting and isolating the negative battery cable. After that, simply rotate the retainers and take out the air cleaner fresh Air Duct. Note that the polarity of the cables used for batteries on gasoline and diesel vehicles is not the same, so first check the cables before beginning any work on the battery. Take out the nut securing the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) cable to the battery clamp stud and then disconnect along with remove the negative and positive cables from the battery. Unscrew the nut holding the negative cable to the body ground stud and remove both battery cables from the B+ terminals of the generator and the starter motor. Work your way through disconnecting the battery retaining devices, pushpins and clips on the cables and finally remove them from the engine.
