When servicing or fixing the battery cables, put the ignition key in the Off position and switch off all electrical accessories first. In the engine compartment, after taking off the spare tire cover, get to the battery and cut off the negative cable and free the fastener holding it to the strut tower on the right front. Place the vehicle up on a lift and take out the nut securing the negative cable to the transmission housing. Take out the pushpins, fasteners and clips holding down the battery cable and only then pull the cable out of the vehicle. Repeat the steps in the back by turning off the ignition, removing the cover over the spare tire, disconnecting the negative cable, removing the fixing for it from the body and pulling the cable out of the trunk. This time, with the positive battery wire coming out of the bulkhead, switch off the ignition, take out the negative cable and then pull out the positive cable. After removing the Power Distribution Center cover, take out the fastener that holds the battery's positive cable at the rear of the center. Remove the routing clips from the rear compartment for the positive cable, take out the right front and rear
Seat Cushions and take off the right cowl and quarter trim panels. Give both the carpet and the insulator a little space to reach the fastener of the positive cable bulkhead, then remove it and the cable, making a note of the cable's route beneath the floor cross members. To service the engine compartment positive cable, close the ignition, open the spare tire cover, take out the negative cable and raise one end of the car on a hoist. Unbolt the battery positive cable bulkhead terminal mounting point by reaching it via the removed right front wheelhouse splash shield, release the routing clip at the back of the starter, unbolt the starter and remove the cable from the vehicle while noting the routing.
