The first step in battery cable service and repair is turning the ignition switch to Off, together with turning all electrical accessories off. For the negative cable down in the engine compartment, take away the spare tire cover, disconnect its cable from the battery and remove the fastener holding it to the right front strut tower. Put the vehicle on a hoist and detach the fastener holding the cable to the transmission housing. Loosen the pushpins, fasteners and clips keeping the battery cable in place, then take the cable out of the engine compartment. For the rear negative cable again, set the ignition switch to Off, remove the spare tire cover, break the connection at the battery and unfasten then remove the cable from the body. First, move the ignition switch to Off, uncover the spare wheel, disconnect the negative cable from the battery and pull back the positive cable. Carefully remove the Power Distribution Center cover and the battery positive cable to the PDC fastener in the back and then disconnect the cable from the rear compartment area's routing clips. The right front and right rear seats can both be removed by pulling up on the retainer loops which are located at the front edge. Take out the sill door trim panels on the right front and right back doors and the lower panel on the right B-pillar. Once the carpet is moved, lift the battery positive cable from its routing clips on the rear seat and shove the bulkhead insulator aside, take out the battery positive cable from the bulkhead fastener just before removing it and the cable from the car, noting the routing path across the main floor supports. With the positive cable in the engine, switch the ignition to Off, peel the spare wheel cover off, unhook the battery's negative cable and lift the car using a hoist. Crawl under the hood and take off the right front
Wheelhouse splash shield so you can access the battery positive cable bulkhead outside terminal. After removing the fastener securing the battery positive cable to bulkhead, go on to unhook the cable from the starter. Unlock the battery positive cable from the routing clips near the back of the engine on the 2.7L and 3.5L models, while on the 5.7L, remove it from the routing clip on the starter before freeing it.
