How to Service the Drive Shaft's Front Propeller on Dodge Durango?

Before servicing the front propeller shaft, shift the transmission and transfer case into neutral, raise the vehicle and, if you have one, remove the skid plate. Place a line across both the transfer case flange and C/V flange for reference during installation and also mark a line on the leading edge of the propeller shaft flange yoke and the front axle companion flange. After that, remove the bolts at both the companion flange and the transfer case flange to separate the propeller shaft. For installation, match up all reference marks and loosely place the bolts through the C/V and companion flange. Tighten the bolts to the companion flange and Range yoke to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.) and follow that by tightening the bolts to the transfer case companion flange to 30.5 Nm (22.5 ft. lbs.). After removing the vehicle from the lift, replace the skid plate, drive it down and check that the repair was successful on the road.

The best way to install the drive shaft is by lining up the reference marks of the slip yoke on the output shaft of the automatic transmission/transfer case. After that, set the references on both flanges to make sure they are the same. Insert new bolts for the companion flange and tighten them to 115 Nm which is the same as 85 ft. lbs.
