For servicing or repairing the rear A/C expansion valve, make sure to pull back the refrigerant from the system first and then remove the negative battery cable. After raising and supporting the car, unhook the underbody refrigerant rear extension tubes from the underbody refrigerant lines behind the right rear wheel panel. Take off the nut fastening the underbody refrigerant rear extension lines and sealing plate to the rear A/C expansion valve, undo the metal retaining strap and separate the lines from the expansion valve. Take out the O-ring seals from the underbody refrigerant line and extension line connections and place tape or cap each opening. After that, pull the metal retaining strap from the rear A/C expansion valve, unfasten the two bolts connecting it to the rear
Evaporator and extract the valve. Move the existing O-ring seals from the rear evaporator and put covers or tape on the exposed fittings and ports on the rear expansion valve. When installing the system, remove the supplied plugs or tape from the open fittings, grease the new O-rings with clean oil made for R-134a and put them on the rear evaporator tube connections, since only special O-rings and oil for the R-134a system should be used. Guide the rear A/C expansion valve onto the tap iron on the rear evaporator and secure it with the two bolts at 11 N.m (97 in. lbs.), making certain that the notch on the metal retaining strap faces the rear refrigerant liquid rear extension line. Position the metal strap on the rear A/C expansion valve stud so the notch is facing backward. After you open the rear underbody refrigerant extension line fittings, remove their tape or plugs, apply clean refrigerant oil to the rubber O-rings and then fit the seals on the line fittings. Bind the rear extension line to the rear A/C expansion valve using a metal strap, then barely torque the nut linking the line and plate. Attach the rear extension lines for underbody refrigerant to the main underbody refrigerant lines, screwing on the fittings to 23 N.m (17 ft. lbs.) and then tighten the nut connecting the sealing plate and expanding valve to the same value. After that, lower the vehicle, attach the negative battery cable, remove the refrigerant and charge the refrigerant system.
