With the cylinder head off the bike, attach adapter 6412 to the piece of the spring compressor tool and compress the valve springs. Remove the devices used to keep the valve retaining locks, the valve spring retainers, the
Valve Stem Seals and the valve springs. Trim any rough edges from the locking grooves and be sure to tell apart the valves so they can be put back in the same original positions. Insert the cleaned valve stems into the cylinder head when you have spread engine oil on them beforehand. After finishing the seat or faces on the valve, examine how much the valve tips measure between 49.541 to 51.271 mm (1.950 to 2.018 inch) from the head valve-ways. Look at the valve tip for damage and, if found, regrind the chamfer to prevent hurting the seals as you install the valve. After that, put the valve spring seat spacer on the head and then attach new cup seals over the valve stems and onto the valve guides. Snap the valve springs into place, plus the valve retainers and then compress them using the C-3422-B Valve Spring Compressor Tool and adapter 6412. Should the valves or seats have been reground, look at spring B and measure the distance from the top of the spring seat to the surface beneath the retainer on the bottom. If it measures above 1-19/32 inch (40.6 mm), you should put a 1/32 inch (0.794 mm) spacer on the shank or head counterbore, to adjust the height of the springs to the normal level of 1-17/32 to 1-19/32 inch (39.1 to 40.6 mm).
