The fundamental operation of the Brake Pads of Dodge Journey involves slowing down the vehicle by converting motion into heat due to friction against the brake rotor. The Brake Pads on the Dodge Journey consist of a steel backing plate that has a bonded or riveted friction lining that presses against the rotor when the caliper is activated. The lining wears down naturally. The vehicle has minimum thickness specifications. Some systems use electronic or mechanical indicators that warn when it is time to replace the Brake Pads. The rotor works with two Brake Pads that convert kinetic energy into thermal energy. This makes disc braking more fade-resistant than drum braking designs. You can choose from many materials, including non-metallic, semi-metallic, fully metallic, and ceramic formulations. They each strike a balance between friction levels, wear rates, and operating noise. For instance, you will have no problem with everyday driving conditions in a Dodge Journey. Standard replacement OEM Brake Pads are ideal for commuting and errands. However, if you regularly drive aggressively or haul a lot of weight, your pads will get too hot and braking will suffer. Checking things regularly when your vehicle reaches about 50,000 miles helps maintain optimum stopping power. Further, the Dodge Journey Brake Pads replacement also prevent rotor damage and fade.

Dodge Journey Brake Pads Parts and Q&A

  • Q:
How to Remove and Replace Brake Pads on the Rear on Dodge Journey?
    A:
It is important to use Retractor, Special Tool 8807, to make sure the rear caliper piston is seated in the bore; other methods may ruin the self-adjuster mechanism. Take a 3/8 in. drive ratchet handle and extension, slide the extension through Special Tool 8807-1 and attach Special Tool 8807-2 to the top of the extension. Place Special Tool 8807-2 into the notches in the caliper's piston face and thread 8807-1 down until it contacts the top of 8807-2 against the piston, but make sure not to overtighten. Turn the ratchet on 8807-2 clockwise until you notice the piston is fully installed. Place shims on every level of the slide abutments on the caliper adapter for both the upper and lower halves. When the brake pads have paper covering the rear face, remove this paper before installation. Brake pads should be put into the abutment shims that are held by disc brake caliper bracket adapter. Slide the caliper over the pads on the adapter, making sure not to damage the guide pin boots during this step. Firmly hold the caliper guide pin stationary, turning the bolt with a wrench and insert the upper and lower caliper guide pin bolts into the holes found on the adapter bracket. Install the tire back on the wheel and bolt it on, tightening the wheel mounting nuts up to 135 Nm. Take the vehicle down lower, gently pump the brakes several times for a strong pedal, add or remove brake fluid if needed and test the car on the street to burn out the foreign material from the calipers.
  • Q:
How to Change Your Brake Pads on Dodge Journey?
    A:
First check that the audible wear indicator, if fitted, is pointing to the top as you install the inboard brake pad on each side of the vehicle. Eliminate any paper protection on the brake pad plate's rear before you install the pad. Use the abutment shims and clip them into the disc brake caliper adapter bracket, then put the brake pads (4, 5) on, making sure the one with the wear indicator faces the caliper. Push the caliper piston all the way back inside the caliper bore so that it doesn't touch the boots during installation. After that, put the disc brake caliper over the brake pads on the adapter bracket, turning the guide pin on the caliper while you hold the guide pin on the bracket with a wrench. Connect the caliper guide pins to the adapter bracket and put in the upper guide pin bolts along with the lower guide pin bolts. Use a torque wrench to tighten them each to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.). Subsequently, fit the tire and wheel assembly onto the car and tighten the wheel mounting nuts to 135 Nm or 100 ft. lbs. Pull the vehicle down and push the brake pedal several times so the pads touch the rotor. Check and top off the brake level in the reservoir if necessary and then take the car out for a test drive to wear away dust and seat the brakes correctly.
