- Q: How to Repair and Maintain an Ignition Switch on Dodge Magnum?A:Before starting any repairs on the ignition switch, cut the negative cable from the battery. Take off the Instrument Panel Center Bezel first and then the bezel cluster from your Chrysler or Dodge. After that, unattach the side trim panel on the Steering Column Cover and remove the screws holding the steering column cover to the instrument panel, then move the panel aside. Simply pull the cover at the top and right side of the steering panel to remove the snap retainers from the instrument panel. Pull out the screws that fasten the panel steering column cover reinforcement to its bracket and then remove the reinforcement from below the instrument panel. Take out the two front screws and the bottom one, then slowly pull the assembly to the rear of the car. Take the electrical connector off the ignition switch and the Skreem Module and pull the interlock cable straight out by depressing its locking tab. With the ignition switch mounting screw taken out, squeeze the two tab locks to free the ignition switch from the lock housing. Install the ignition switch by placing it near the lock cylinder on the steering column, rotating the cylinder with the key to match a tab and notch and then ensuring a slot around the shaft is covering the switch. Plug the interlock cable into the assembly, attach the electrical connector to the Skreem Module and place the switch assembly onto the instrument panel. Attach the electrical connector to the ignition switch after that and then use a wrench to bolt down both the upper mounting nut and the lower mounting nut. Put the steering column reinforcement and its cover back after that, then add the trim panel end, bezel cluster and ignition switch bezel ring. As the last step, attach the negative cable again.
