The first step to fixing or repairing an alternator is to remove its negative battery connection. Unscrew the jam nut and loosen the adjustment bolt before you raise and install support for the vehicle. Unbolt the splash shield of the accessory drive, loosen the lower bracket bolt and take away the
Drive Belt for the generator. After locking the generator field circuit connector, simply push the RED locking tab and pull out the terminal nut and wire. Following that, remove both the upper and lower mounting bolts, lift the generator off the pivot bracket and pull the pivot bracket out from the motor housing. You can then get rid of the generator by opening the wheel well. Go through the wheel well, fit the generator into its lower bracket and tighten its bolts up to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Screw the driver end and tail end bolts in place only loosely, seal the generator field circuit connector by pushing the crimped RED locking tab and attach the B+ terminal to the terminal post. Reconnect the drive belt, lower the vehicle, set it and tighten the bolt and nut that secure it. Attach the vehicle to the jack again and tighten the lower mounting bolt to 54 Nm (or 40 ft. lbs.). After that, put back the splash shield. When all is ready, slowly lower your car and attach the
Battery Cable again.
