Remove the
Power Steering Pump and air conditioning compressor belt by turning the
Belt Tensioner clockwise with a 17 mm wrench. Afterwards, release the spring tension carefully. After that, take the drive belt off the engine. First, take off the power steering pump/air conditioning compressor drive belt from the belt's center. Then, unbolt the pivot, lock and adjusting bolts to remove the generator belt. While installing, make sure every V-groove from the drive belt touches the pulley grooves and stays properly routed. Before installing the belt pulley, remove any debris, oil, grease and coolants from the grooves on the belt pulley. If any of the above symptoms such as excessive wear or torn cords, appear, change the belt, but normal minor cracks on the ribbed Poly-V belt are acceptable. Do not apply any belt dressing or restorer to Poly-V belts. While installing, lay down the drive belt over all the pulleys, just above the power steering pump pulley and tighten the tensioner to pass the drive belt around that pulley. After completing installation, see that the belt length indicator lines match the minimum and maximum belt marks and place the newly installed belt in line with the normal belt length line. For the generator belt, fit it and make sure it's tight by turning the tension bolt according to the Drive Belt Tension Chart. Check the belt tension with Special Tool 8371 Belt Tension Gauge Adapter and Drbiii while the engine is off. Link the 8371 with the Drbiii, use the microphone probe to sample the belt area about 2.54 cm away, pluck the belt three times and change the tension so the frequency matches the number in the chart. After that, tighten the pivot bolt and locking nut to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) and place the power steering pump and A/C compressor drive belt.
