The Fuel Pump in Dodge Nitro vehicles is used in supplying fuel from the tank to the carburetor or the fuel injection system in an engine. Original, Dodge Nitro cars employ electric fuel pumps which as a rule are installed inside the fuel tank and are part of the sending unit for fuel quantity indication. These pumps are required to develop higher pressures needed in the contemporary fuel injection systems to facilitate proper supply of fuel for ignition. However, older models may have used mechanical fuel pumps which are installed externally, and work at comparatively lower pressure as those used in carbureted engines. Mechanical pumps have been used before and are not as efficient as electric pumps that also bring benefits such as better heat dissipation and more safety options. In total, as a part of Dodge Nitro vehicle, the Fuel Pump system is designed to be adaptive to performance and efficiency requirements of modern automotive market.

Dodge Nitro Fuel Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Fuel Pump on Dodge Nitro?
    A:
Make sure to release the pressure in the fuel system before you start service or repair of the fuel level sensor, as it is constantly pressurized. Take out the Fuel Tank and use the index arrow on top of the fuel pump module to check where it's turned. Hold the top end of tool 9340 on each of the 3 notches found on the outside of the lockring. Use a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar to remove the lockring after it is attached to tool 9340 and turn the breaker bar counter-clockwise. Removing the lockring will make the module move up slightly so it may be removed from the tank. Don't try to bend the float arm when installing the washer.
