  Start the installation by detaching the battery negative cable to stop the supplemental restraint system and make sure the system capacitor discharges. Stretch the brake lamp switch plunger all the way out. Move your foot to the brake pedal, keeping it depressed and make the two tabs on the switch collar line up with the keyed area in the right side of the brake pedal mounting bracket under the instrument panel. Pass the locking collar through the keyed hole so that the switch housing is in place against the bracket, then turn the switch counterclockwise by about 30 degrees until another click is heard from the locking tab engaging the pedal bracket. Just let the brake pedal make contact with the switch plunger when your foot is off the pedal; try not to pull it up. Automatically unbrace the brake lighting by pushing the brake pedal and then reattach the wire harness connector to the brake lamp switch connector receptacle and connect the battery's negative cable.

  Disconnect and separate the negative Battery Cable as the first step to work on the brake light switch. Find the small switch for the brake lamp on the pedal bracket just under the center of the instrument panel. Push the tab that locks the switch to the back of the switch body and turn it about one-third of a complete revolution counterclockwise. Slide the switch to the front till it disconnects from the hole in the pedal bracket and pull apart the vehicle wire harness from the switch connector receptacle. When installing, pull the plunger on the new switch completely outward and link the vehicle wire harness to the switch connector receptacle. Depress and keep the brake pressed down until you finish the installation, then insert the switch plunger through the other side all the way so the locking collar sits against the mounting pedal hole. Move the switch clockwise until you hear it click, this means the locking tab has engaged with the bracket on the pedal. Depress the brake pedal so the switch plunger will adjust by itself, then link up the negative battery cable.
