Install the engine support tool 8534 or a substitute, then lift the car before doing any work on the engine cradle crossmember. After removing the engine mount nuts, front spring and calipers, cut the straps holding the wheel speed sensor as well as the brake pad wear sensor wire harness to the cradle and cut those straining the transmission harness. Undo the bolt at the
Steering Shaft, disconnect it, drain the fluid from the reservoir and take off both hoses from the steering gear. Remove the bolt that fastens the power steering hose support bracket to the cradle, unhook the
Brake Lines from the body side and support the cradle using a correct lifting device. Withdraw the four cradle support bolts on both sides and descend the engine cradle so you can detach the support clips to release the brake lines. Then, get rid of the nuts and jounce bumpers, then take away the mount heat shield and stabilizer bar if that's needed and finally remove the steering gear. Slide a sharp bladed tool in between the identification plate and the fender to remove it. When installing, spread some RTV sealant on the engine cradle and fix the identification plate there, then bolt the steering gear, tightening the bolts first to 18 ft.lbs., then to 33 ft.lbs. and finally an extra 90 degrees. Place the stabilizer bar, heat shield, brake horizontal jounce bumpers, fasten with nuts and position support clips with brake lines in place. Adjust the engine cradle to its hight, then attach the bolts, making sure they are tightened to 125 N.m (92 ft.lbs.). Link the brake lines at the couplings, tighten to 14 N.m (10 ft.lbs.), put the power steering hose in place and add the support bracket bolt. screw on both steering hoses at the steering gear, reattach the steering shaft to the gear and put in the lower pinch bolt, tightening it to 24 N.m (18 ft.lbs.). New tie straps should be fitted to the transmission harness, engine mount nuts should be tightened to 45 N.m (33 ft.lbs.), calipers and the wheel speed sensor and brake pad wear sensor wire harness should also have new tie straps installed. After that, check and ensure that the vehicle meets the required specifications.
