Dodge Sprinter 3500 Automatic Transmission Shifter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove an Automatic Transmission Shifter on Dodge Sprinter 3500?
    A:
Before removing the shifter A/T, place the selector lever in position "D." After that, take off the top and bottom bits of the center section on the instrument panel. Untie all the electric connector cables and unbolt the shift lever assembly from its mount (1). With your finger pressed on the locking tab of the park lock cable, push the coupling against the spring force into the SLA, twist it 90° to the right or left and pull it off. Pull out the clip (1) and remove the shift cable from the shifter ball knob (2). Lastly, get rid of the shifter (1) by unscrewing it from its socket.
  • Q: How to Service and Repair an Automatic Transmission Shifter on Dodge Sprinter 3500?
    A:
First move the selector stick into position "D" and then remove the top part of the center portion of the instrument panel, as well as the bottom part. Press the locking tab on the park lock cable coupling together to stop the coupling, press the coupling into the shift lever mount and then rotate it by 90° to disconnect it from the assembly. Press the release button at both marked points and, using a suitable screwdriver, carefully remove the ball socket of the transmission shift cable from the ball knob at the assembly. Release the assembly by unscrewing the bolts, lower the selector lever to "P," then pull out the whole shift lever assembly from your vehicle. Line up the shift lever assembly in the vehicle and use a wrench to fasten the bolts, tightening them to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.). To attach, press the locking tab on the brake loop while turning the coupling clockwise until it's locked in place. Tighten the connector in place, turn the ignition on, use the brakes and move the gear lever again to position "D". Insert the transmission shift cable into the ball knob at the assembly, after that reinsert the top and bottom portions of the center part of the panel and check the repair.
