How to Service and Repair a Front Cross-Member on Dodge Sprinter 3500?

The first step to servicing the front cross-member is to remove the washer fluid reservoir and hook up an engine lifting device. Raise and rest the vehicle, then take off the wheels and the wheelhouse covers. Take out the shock absorber strut from the body, get rid of the brake wear indicator's electrical connection and untie the electrical connections for the rpm sensor. Disconnect the connection between the brake line and the brake line (12 and 13) and place a container there to catch any spilling brake fluid. Lift out the bolt (11), take apart the universal joint (10) on the steering gear, cut loose the battery ground line (9) from the bracket and remove the nut (7) to disassemble the clamp (6) from the high pressure line (8). Remove drain the power steering fluid, then remove the nut holding the frame type integral support (2) to the joint. Install bolts 1 and 3 after that, but remember to tighten bolt 3 to 172 Nm (127 ft lbs.) and bolt 1 to 120 Nm (90 ft lbs.), finishing with an additional 270 degrees turn. After that, reinstall bolts 1 with a tightness of 172 Nm and bolt the engine mount, tightening them to 58 Nm. Secure the transmission crossmember 5 to the frame with bolts 3 and 4 and tighten bolt 3 to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.). After removing the transmission support, set bolt 4 with 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) torque for M8 or 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.) torque for M10. Change the gasket of the power steering gear lines and make sure the lines are tightened to the steering gear using 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.) of torque. Route the high pressure power steering line 8 and return lines to the frame-type integral support 2 and connect them with a clamp and nut. Link up high pressure line 8 and hold it in place with clamp 6. Secure the connection with nut 7 and then clip battery ground line 9 to the bracket. Install joint 10, then attach joint 11 and bolt 11, then connect brake pipes 12 and the bolted connection 13 and lastly install the rpm sensor and brake pad wear indicator electrical connectors. Raise the shock absorbers with a floor jack or similar device, install the bolts and torque the bolts to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) after turning them an additional 60 degrees. Install the covers over the wheelhouse and attaching the wheels, remove the engine lift tool and then set in place the washer fluid reservoir. Once done, fill the power steering and brakes systems, inspect the alignment and correct it if required.
