Unplug the negative battery cable from the remote jumper terminal before you start to service the thermostat. Always wait for the cooling system to cool and for all the pressure to release before touching the pressure cap. Let all the coolant out of the cooling system and set the vehicle up on a hoist. Disconnect the right front wheel and belt splash shield and also the accessory
Drive Belts. Taking out the lower generator mounting bolt is necessary before you can lower the vehicle. Remove the wires from the generator, AC clutch and AC pressure sensor and shift the wiring harness out of the way. Removing the oil dipstick and tube, then plugging the hole they exit from will keep coolant from getting into the
Oil Pan and harming the engine. Unbolt all the remaining generator fittings and carefully bring out the generator from the engine. Disconnect both hoses where they are attached to the
Thermostat Housing, then take out the housing bolts and remove the thermostat and its housing. Wipe the gasket sealing area clean and put the thermostat with its bleed valve on top first, then slide the gasket into the thermostat housing. Put the thermostat and housing on the cylinder block, fastening everything with bolts to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.). Connect the hoses to the housing on the thermostat and then set the generator on top and attach with its bolts. Before you remove the plug from the oil pan, wipe away any remaining coolant from around it. Take out the plug from the oil pan and attach the engine oil dipstick tube instead. Put the AC clutch, AC pressure sensor and generator connectors back together. Get the vehicle off the ground on a hoist to fit the accessory drive belts, install the belt cover and put back the wheel on the right front. Drop the vehicle, connect the negative battery cable and fill all of the corrosion-treated cooling system parts.
