Dodge Viper Differential Cover Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Install a Differential Cover on Dodge Viper?
    A:
Before installing the differential cover, make sure the sealing surfaces of the differential cover and housing are dry and free of any debris. Put a thin line of Mopar(R) Axle RTV Sealer around the inside edge of the cover. Before the next step, loose the nine differential cover bolts so they are not tight. After that, tighten the differential cover bolts in a diagonal order until you reach 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). After getting the cover on, put 0.07 L (2.3 oz.) of Limited Slip Additive in the lock housing and fill the rear axle with 1.3 L (43.7 oz.) of Synthetic SAE 75W-140 Gear and Axle Lubricant. After applying the sealer, the rear axle differential must be set up within five minutes, otherwise the cover should be cleaned and fresh sealer used to stop any possible leaks. Ensuring that the beads have proper size, no breaks and are on the proper gasket surface will help reach a leak-free result and it is important to clean all sealing areas with Mopar(R) brake parts cleaner before applying sealer.
