The CV Boot of Jeep Compass vehicles is one of the body safeguard used to protect the Constant Velocity (CV) joints which play a key role of transmitting power from the transaxle to the wheel. This flexible rubber or plastic boot contains the required lubricant for the CV joints while at the same time protecting the joint from dirt and grime hence enhancing their functionality. Current Jeep Compass models employ several kinds of CV joints while the outer joints are Rzeppa kind and inboard ones can be tripod or double offset CV joints. The outer CV joints run at more acute angles than the inboard ones, the inboard joints get used up for encoder shaft length variation due to suspension movement. - Q: How to Service and Repair a CV Boot on Jeep Compass?A:The first step is to remove the halfshaft from the car when fixing the Constant Velocity Joint Boot. After that, take out the large clamp that fastens the inner tripod boot to the tripod housing and remove the small clamp that holds the boot to the connecting shaft. Slip the sealing boot off the housing and slowly move it down the interconnecting area. Always secure the rollers when pulling the spider joint free from the tripod housing to stop them from dropping. Pull out the shaft and the spider part while holding them together from the tripod joint housing, then take out the snap ring that holds the spider assembly to the interconnecting shaft. If it's hard to remove the assembly, gently tap it out with a brass drift while making sure no impact reaches the outside tripod bearings. After the rest, take off the sealing boot from the interconnecting shaft and clean and examine closely the spider assembly, the base of the tripod and the shaft. Any parts with obvious wear indicate the need to replace the entire halfshaft assembly, as nothing can be repaired inside it.
