Before servicing the fuel gauge sender and unplugging the fuel pump on a front-wheel-drive vehicle, drain the fuel system pressure. Don't work near any heat or spark sources and make sure the area is well-ventilated, including avoiding smoking to lower the risk of injuries or death. As a first step, take off the air cleaner lid, unplug the inlet air temp sensor and makeup air line and finally remove the black negative
Battery Cable. After that, lift the rear
Seat Cushion and take off the plastic cover that it covers. Clear loose dirt and debris from the
Fuel Tank's top. Take off the left side module lock ring with special tool #9340 and ensure the fuel pump is exactly where it should be on top of the tank for the fuel gauge to work well. Remove the module from the fuel tank and guarantee no fuel leaks into the car and drain the fuel from the pump module outside the vehicle.
