The first step in servicing and repairing the NAG1 Automatic Transmission's shift cable is to shift it to PARK and lift the car. Remove the eyelet from the transmission manual shift lever and draw out the cable from the bracket it is mounted in. Lower the car and take out the floor console if it is necessary to reach the shifter and its cables. When needed, with the shifter in gear, take out the bolts that hold the cover around the gearshift and park lock cables and remove the covering. Pull the gearshift cable off the gear lever pin and remove the retainer from where it rests in the shifter assembly. Under the vehicle, get rid of the shift cable grommet connecting the dash panel and haul out the gearshift cable from the vehicle. When installing, put the gearshift cable through the dash panel and place a grommet on the panel above it. Insert the end of the gearshift cable retainer into the notch found in the shifter and then hook the other end around the shift lever pin. Should it be needed, turn the cable adjustment nut counterclockwise. Lift the vehicle and use your hand to try to rotate the propeller shaft; if the shaft moves, set the manual transmission shift lever fully toward the back and rotate the shaft until the PARK system locks in. Push the gearshift cable through the mounting bracket and clip one side of the cable to the transmission manual shift lever. Park your car by lowering the vehicle and setting the shifter into PARK. Adjust the shifter by turning the bolt with 30 Nm of torque and see whether everything shifts smoothly. Should it be needed, put back the shield over the gearshift and park lock cables and secure it to the shifter assembly with bolts. Clear all parts on the dash panel and finish by inserting the insulation pad, installing the floor console and putting back any lower instrument panel pieces.
