The Ram Backing Plate is a steel plate located in the brake assembly of the truck. It helps in stabilizing the hardware and keeping grit out. Further, it keeps the brakes cool. Swapping the Backing Plate requires patience, not fancy tools. On a level surface, chalk the wheels, loosen the lugs, jack the corner, and set a stand. Remove the tire completely after yanking it before sliding off the drum or rotor and brushing rust off the hub face. Position the new Backing Plate onto the hub and align holes, drive fasteners to factory specification with a click wrench. Replace the shoe kit or put the rotor back, spin the assembly to check for scrape, put the wheel back on and drop the Ram and cruise the block gently tapping the brakes.
