2000 Chrysler Cirrus Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Shock Absorber on 2000 Chrysler Cirrus?
A: Lift up the carpeting at the rear of the shock tower to view the shock mounting nuts and then remove the plastic cap from the shock tower's top. After that, disconnect the shock assembly upper mount/spring seat from the shock tower by removing its 2 nuts. Lift the automobile on top of jackstands or on a hoist designed to lift the frame, then take out the rear wheel and tire assembly. Take out the bolt connecting the shock absorber to the rear knuckle and then push down on the rear suspension to pull the shock absorber away. Take the shock assembly down and roll the top outward so that you can take it out from the top opening in the wheel. When installing, backtrack the removal steps by fitting the shock assembly first. Attach the shock mount at the top end to the holes on the rear shock tower and then lower down the rear knuckle to position the shock absorber clevis bracket onto the rear knuckle, keeping everything aligned with the bushing inside it. Attach the bolt securely by turning it to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.). Move the vehicle to access the trunk and then install the 2 mounting brackets for the shock absorbers, tightening each nut to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) Outfit the shock tower with the plastic cover and fit the carpeting back in place, then set the wheel back in place and secure in the proper sequence to half of the expected torque. Proceed with the full sequence to tighten to the required final torque. Lower the vehicle onto the ground when you are done.
