2000 Chrysler Concorde Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Shock Absorber on 2000 Chrysler Concorde?
A: The strut assembly has to be separated from the vehicle for service and repair. Use a strut spring compressor, a PSE tool W-7200 or something similar to compress the coil spring as the manufacturer says. If you replace the struts as a pair, indicate on the coil spring and strut assembly which strut is which. Make sure the spring compressor hooks are installed anywhere on the coil spring except those covered by a sleeve. Install the strut assembly in the compressor, letting the farthest end stick out, use the compressor hooks to grasp the upper and lower coils and put a clamp on the lower end of the spring. Push the coil spring down until there is no weight on the upper strut mount, then hold the strut shaft with Special Tool 6864 and take out the nut. Disconnect the upper mount assembly, remove the upper spring isolator, dust shield and jounce bumper and then pull out the strut from the bottom of the coil spring, taking out the lower spring isolator. Examine every element, specially the strut to confirm no shaft binding, loss of air pressure, cracks on the jounce bumper or poor states in the dust shield and spring isolators. Notice where the upper coil spring mounts before you let the tension out. Check that all the pieces are clean, put the coil spring into the compressor with its sleeve facing up and rotate it to the position listed in instructions. Mount the lower spring isolator to the strut, slide the strut into the coil spring and make sure everything is correctly lined up. After putting the jounce bumper into the dust shield, put them into the upper strut mount. Slip on the upper strut-mount against the strut shaft and turn the nut so that the Strut Shaft Socket registers a torque of 76 Nm (55 ft. lbs.). Take tension off the coil spring, check that everything is aligned and then release the clamp and strut assembly. After that, replace the assembly in the vehicle.
