2000 Chrysler Sebring Brake Pad Parts and Q&A
Q: What Are Brake Pads with Wear Indicators and How Should They Be Inspected and Replaced on 2000 Chrysler Sebring?
A: At 2 mm (0.08 inch) thickness, the wear indicators on brake pads press against the brake disc, causing a noise that reminds the driver to replace and check the brakes. The thickness of brake pads can be checked with the caliper body check port; standard is 10 mm (0.39 inch) and the limit is 2.0 mm (0.08 inch). When the limit is surpassed, you should replace both battery pads as a group and any significant difference between their thicknesses requires checking the piston, lock pin and guide pin movement. First, get rid of the guide pin, lift the caliper assembly and push it inward until it splits from the lock pin, with the wires supporting everything all the time to avoid smearing the grease inside the guide pin. After that, take away the pad and wear indicator assembly, pad assembly, clip and both shims (outer: stainless and coated with rubber, inner: stainless and coated with rubber) from the caliper support. When using the front brake, apply Multi-purpose Grease At Part No. 2932524 or a similar item to the pads' attaching sides, the inner shim and both shims, being careful that no grease spills on the pad or the brake disc friction surface. Following pad removal, run the hub torque test to check for brake drag torque. Now, fit the pad and caliper assembly, then measure the brake drag.
