2000 Dodge Caravan Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2000 Dodge Caravan?
A: Removing the transaxle and flex plate is the initial step for handling the crankshaft main bearing seal service. Fit a 3/16 flat bladed screwdriver into the gap between the seal's dust cover and the crankshaft metal case, prying the seal out by angling the screwdriver against the case, but keeping the blade off the seal itself. If the crankshaft's edges are burred or scratched, polish them with 400 grit sandpaper so as not to damage the seals when you install the new seal which should be dry. Place Special Tool 6926-1 on the crankshaft and line up the seal over the guide so its lip points toward the crankcase. Push the seal into the block with a 6926-2 special tool and let handle C-4171 sit on the bottom of the block. After putting on the seal, return the flex plate, put Mopar Lock & Seal Adhesive on the bolts and secure them with 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.) of tightening force, then set the transaxle back into position.
