2001 Dodge Caravan Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Front Crankshaft Seal on 2001 Dodge Caravan?
A: First take off the crankshaft vibration damper, then the timing belt, to access the front crankshaft seal. After that, remove the crankshaft sprocket with Special Tool 6793 and be sure the C-4685-C2 seal does not touch the shaft seal surface or bore. After that, use Tool 6771 to carefully remove the front crankshaft oil seal, so you do not damage the surface of the cover. To replace the seal, use Special Tool 6780 to install it so its seal spring is toward the engine inside and it is even with the cover. Once you have finished installing the crankshaft sprocket with Special Tool 6792, go on to reinstall the timing belt and lastly the crankshaft vibration damper.
