2000 Dodge Caravan Water Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Water Pump on 2000 Dodge Caravan?
A: You should first disconnect the negative cable from the battery and raise the car up with a hoist to get to the right inner splash shield. After that, remove the accessory drive belts and drain the cooling system. Secure the car from below, then unbolt the right engine mount and bracket. Second, take out the timing belt and then remove the timing belt idler pulley. Apply Special tool C-4687 and adaptor C-4687-1 to secure the camshaft sprocket before removing the mounting bolt and afterward remove the cam sprockets and rear timing belt cover. When you install the pump, prioritize keeping a new O-ring gasket in the correct groove, as this protects the fittings from any coolant leak. Screw the pump body onto the valve block until the screw attains 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.) and then test the cooling system at 15 psi using a pressure tester to check the seals of the pump and O-ring. Turn the pump by hand to confirm it works well and then attach the rear timing belt cover. Then, install the camshaft sprockets and tighten the mounting bolts to 101 Nm (75 ft. lbs.), next fit the timing belt idler pulley and set the mounting bolt to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). After you've installed the head, proceed to add the timing belt, the right engine mount bracket and the engine mount. Add the antifreeze fluid, add the fresh accessory drive belts, lift the vehicle and rehook the battery cable.
