Q: How to Remove and Install Car Speakers in Various Cab Configurations on 2000 Dodge Dakota?
A: Disconnect the battery cable, make sure it's in isolation mode and next, take out the front door's trim panel. Separate the connector between the door wire harness and the front door's upper speaker. Using two screws, remove the speaker from the back panel. To disconnect the lower speaker near the front door, first break the battery connection, take out the trim panel, remove the three screws holding the speaker in place, pull the speaker, take the wire connector off and take out the speaker. On a conventional cab, disconnect the negative cable from the battery, take out the B-pillar trim panel, reach the speaker wire connector by pulling away the panel, disconnect it and remove the screws fixing the speaker to the side of the trim. Disconnect the battery negative cable in a club cab, take off the rear cab side trim panel, undo the three holding screws of the speaker, move the speaker aside to get to the connector and remove it. Make sure the battery negative cable is not connected, then pry and remove the trim panel from the back door. Unscrew the three screws, pull the speaker free, disconnect its wire harness connector and finally remove the speaker. To install, place the front door upper speaker against the trim panel and secure both screws to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.) pressure, attach the door wire harness connector, install the trim panel and return the battery negative cable. On the front door, place the front door lower speaker inside the inner panel, reattach the wire and insert the speaker into its mounting hole. Secure it using three screws, tightened to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.); then install the trim panel and restore the negative battery cable. The speaker for the rear cab side panel fits over the B-pillar trim and you screw on the two screws by hand to about 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.), reconnect the wire harness, fit the trim panel and reconnect the negative battery cable. For a club cab, place the speaker above the rear cab side inner panel, secure the wire harness, put the speaker in the mounting hole, use three screws to tighten to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.), attach the trim panel and attach and tighten the battery negative cable. For the quad cab's rear door speaker, fit it to the inner panel behind the door, reattach the wire harness, place it into the mounting hole, attach and tighten the three 3.9 Nm (35 in. lbs.) screws, place the trim panel and link back the battery negative cable.
