2000 Dodge Dakota Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal with the Timing Case Cover Installed on 2000 Dodge Dakota?
A: First, pull the negative tether off the battery, next get rid of the serpentine belt, the vibration damper and the radiator shroud to work on the front crankshaft seal with the cover in place. Take care to remove the oil seal so that the seal bore is free of dirt. When putting in the new oil seal, place it on Timing Case Cover Alignment and Seal Installation Tool 6139 with its open end turned inward, using Perfect Seal or similar product on the outside diameter of the seal and then coating the crankshaft with engine oil lightly. Fit the tool and seal around the crankshaft flange and secure with the draw screw tool in Seal Installation Tool 6139 until the nut touches the cover. After putting away your tools, apply engine oil to the seal's vibration damper hub contact surface. Put a dash of Mopar Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant in the crankshaft's keyway and then slide the key along with the inner key cap in place. When the key is fitted, attach the vibration damper, washer and bolt and tighten the bolt to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.) torque after you apply the lubricant. After reinstalling the belt, ensure it is at the proper tension, right the radiator shroud and plug the negative battery cable back in before you drive off.
