2001 Dodge Dakota Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: First, remove the flywheel or converter drive plate and then toss out the old bolts used to hold them. Gently break the seal that holds the crankshaft flange, so you do not scratch or nick the crankshaft. After that, clean the surface on the crankshaft where the seal sits and put a coat of oil on the lip of the new rear main bearing seal. Guide the seal into its correct spot and use the rear main Seal Installer Tool 6271A to get it flush with the cylinder block so the felt lip is within the flywheel's mounting area to prevent tearing. Finally, install the flywheel or converter drive plate by using new bolts and tighten them to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.) torque, then turn them an extra 60°.
