2000 Dodge Dakota Drive Belt Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Drive Belt on 2000 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before servicing or repairing the drive belt, first set the belt tension using the screws on the power steering pump bracket and idler pulley assembly. First, cut off the negative battery cable from the machine. After that, open the belt tension at the idler pulley by losing the tension adjusting bolt and the center bolt on that pulley and then remove the accessory drive belt. While installing the new belt, take care that it is rightly routed to avoid overheating the engine because of the water pump's incorrect rotation. Before putting on the new belt, examine each pulley to make sure it is fine. Follow the recommendations for the drive belt and tighten the bolt that holds the center pulley to 57 Nm which comes out to be 42 ft. lbs. Following installation of the power steering pump bracket and idler pulley, make sure to check the belt tension and align it properly.
