2000 Dodge Dakota Lash Adjuster Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Lash Adjuster and Lifter on 2000 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before servicing or fixing the lifter and lash adjuster, keep all parts in place just as you took them out. First, you should remove the cover on top of the engine cylinder head. After that, unscrew the capscrews on each bridge and pivot, followed by one turn each from pivot to bridge and back to pivot, to ensure you do not damage the bridges. Once that's done, pull out the push rods and then work tappet out of the cylinder head through the opens spaces using a Hydraulic Valve Tappet Removal/Installation Tool. You don't have to put engine oil on the tappets when you install them; they will collect oil naturally as the engine runs. Put some Mopar Engine Oil Supplement on a tappet, insert and install it using the Hydraulic Valve Tappet Removal/Installation Tool. After the push rod rods, fit the rocker arms and bridge and pivot assemblies, then loosely tighten the capscrews at each bridge. Alternately tighten the capscrews in each thread, checking each one reached 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) before setting on the engine cylinder head cover.
