2001 Dodge Dakota Lash Adjuster Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Lash Adjuster on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: First, take out the engine cylinder head cover to work on and fix the lifter and lash adjuster. After removing the valve stem tip, move the bridge and pivot assemblies and the rocker arms by turning counterclockwise on each capscrew a bit at a time. Extract the push rods, then take out the tappets from the cylinder head using the opening in each push rod. The tappets need no oil charging for installation, as they self-charge once the engine is running. Dip each tappet into Mopar Engine Oil Supplement or an equivalent before using the tool to insert it into its original locating hole. First, put the push rods in the original places, then set in the rocker arms and bridge and pivot assemblies and only loosely screw the capscrews on each bridge. To spare the bridges, tighten the capscrews alternately, each time turning them only by one turn until they reach 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Install the engine cylinder head cover as the last step.
