2000 Dodge Dakota Pilot Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service a Pilot Bearing on 2000 Dodge Dakota?
A: Serve the pilot bearing by uninstalling the transmission, the transfer case if you have that and the clutch housing. After that, remove the clutch cover and disc. Insert a proper blind hole puller and then move it to remove the pilot bearing. When you install the arm, first remove all traces of dirt by cleaning the bearing bore with a solvent and then wiping it clean with a shop towel. Place the bearing in with a clutch alignment tool to prevent it from getting crooked. Push the bearing into the bearing bore until you can feel it meet the edge, being careful not to put it into a recess. Reinstall the clutch disc and cover last, then the clutch housing, transmission and transfer case if you have one.
