2000 Dodge Dakota Release Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Release Bearing on 2000 Dodge Dakota?
A: To access the Clutch Release Bearing, you need to remove the transmission before anything else. After that, separate the release bearing from the fork and take out the bearing. Check the front bearing retainer release slide's surface and if it is scratched, worn or damaged, change out the retainer. Make sure the fork is straight and not damaged and that the pivot is strong and undamaged. Should the release fork retainer spring be damaged or deformed, you should replace it. Apply a light amount of Mopar high temperature bearing grease to the pilot bearing, the splines on the input shaft, bearing retainer slide surface, fork pivot and release fork pivot area. After that, secure the release fork and bearing into place, install the transmission and reassemble everything.
