2000 Dodge Dakota Starter Motor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Starter Motor on 2000 Dodge Dakota?
A: You should disconnect the battery negative cable and support the vehicle under it before service or repair work. Unscrew and remove the front washer holding down the starter motor's lower mounting flange, then unscrew and take out the washer for the upper mounting flange supporting the starter motor. Guide the starter motor down slightly so that you can remove B(+)'s nut, attached to the terminal stud on the solenoid and make sure the starter rests on the wires instead of hanging from them. Then, take off the positive cable eyelet terminal from the solenoid B(+) terminal stud and remove the battery positive cable solenoid terminal wire harness connector from the starter solenoid. When the starter motor is removed from the manual transmission clutch housing, replace it and then connect the battery positive cable solenoid terminal wire harness connector. Place the positive cable terminal of the battery on the solid B(+) terminal stud on the solenoid and tighten the nut until it measures 13.6 Nm (120 in. lbs.). Screw in the two units to the mounting flange and tighten them to 54.2 Nm (40 ft. lbs.); you can let go of the torque wrench at this point. With that, lift the car up and reattach the battery's negative cable.
