2000 Dodge Grand Caravan Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Brake Caliper on 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: First, hold the brake pedal firmly with a brake pedal depressor tool after pushing it past its first inch, to cut the master cylinder off from the rest of the brake system. Lift up the car and undo the rear wheel and tire assembly. Loosen the bolt holding the banjo and brake hose together and toss away the two washers that were attached. Remove the bolt holding together the rear caliper and mounting guide and shift the rear of the caliper up while pulling its front out of its holder. Should you need to replace the rotor, unclip the retainer clips from the wheel studs and pull the rotor off straightly. First, pull the caliper piston all the way back into the piston bore and treat the adapter abutments with Mopar (R) lubricant or a similar substitute. Turn the rotor onto the hub with the power level indicator facing straight up. Following this, move the caliper and brake shoes slowly onto the adapter so the caliper guide pin bushings are not damaged. Screw in the caliper guide pin bolts but make sure not to overtighten them and keep them from being crossed. Place new special washers on both sides of the hose fitting, slide the banjo bolt through and screw in the bolt to 47 Nm (35 ft. lb.). Slide on the wheel and tire grouping prior to tightening the wheel mounting stud nuts with an initial sequence and half specific torque, then finish with the same sequence but now to the full torque level of 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Slim down the vehicle, pull out the brake pedal depressor tool, bleed the brake circuit to the brake caliper, drive it on the road to exercise the brakes and check the shoe linings.
