2000 Dodge Grand Caravan Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Intermediate Parking Brake Cable on 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: When servicing or repairing the intermediate parking brake cable, first lift the vehicle. Make sure the adjustment mechanism in the parking brake stays locked and only release the locking pliers after the cable from the equalizer has been released. Take the intermediate parking brake cable from the cable equalizer and the locking nut holding the intermediate housing on the side bracket attached to the frame rail. Take the intermediate parking brake cable out of the connector to the right rear cable and remove the nut connecting the cable housing to the side bracket. With these shorter models, disconnect the middle part of the brake cable by lowering and loosening the fuel tank. Following removal, insert the ends of the park brake cable through the frame rails and into the brackets, holding them with locking nuts at each end. When needed, reinstall the fuel tank where it belongs. Hook the intermediate parking brake cable onto the cable connector at the right rear parking brake cable and on the cable equalizer. Unfasten the locking pliers connecting to the front park brake cable to free the adjuster which will adjust all the park brake cables for you. Following this, attach the foam collar onto the parking brake cable so it doesn't click against the floor, then park your vehicle, press the park brake once and pull the lever to get the cables into place.
